Little ones are so special. As they explore the wide world around them with their kaleidoscope's of eyes, they express themselves with sincerity and earnestness. Little ones are filled with such an immense joy, and they're child-like faith is a perfect example of trust. My little sister is one of these children. And, as I watch her grow and learn, I begin to learn more myself. How to smile more, how to forgive cheerfully. Here are three things this delightful little girl has taught me. 1. STAND UP TO BELLIGERANCEI can admit that standing up to bullying is tough. When one continues to degrade and bluster, it's easy to back off and stay the bystander. But when the bully continued to tease, this little one said, "No. That's not okay," to stand up for her friend. Even though it took practise and a lot of courage, she learned to use her voice and protect others from the horrors bullying brings. 2. KEEP SMILINGEvery bad day, when things don't seem to go my way, i'm one to step back and grumble. My smile slowly fades into a flustered grimace. I know it's cliche, but it's true. Days like these are days when she starts smiling. When she leaps in joy and doesn't let the bad weather get the better of her. Joy is a choice, not something given based on an event or a celebration. She chooses joy. 3. FORGIVE WHOLEHEARTEDLYForgiveness is a big topic, not only because it's hard, but because it's something we all wrestle with. But I think we can all learn something from little ones who can forgive earnestly. The next time it's time to forgive, picture a little one in your life. Remember their wholeheartedness and remember that the reason we can forgive is because we have been forgiven. Let the little ones God has placed in your life teach you something. Instead of looking down on them, listen to them. Explore the world with them. Learn and grow with them, because they have a few things to teach you. Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young. But set an example for the believers in speech, in love, in conduct, in faith and in purity. |
