Charm is decietful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Though this verse and modesty in general is most commonly associated with teenage girls, it's important to keep in mind that no matter who in particular is identified with modesty, it's always the state of heart that is most important.
In this day and age when modesty is looked down on, we, as brothers and sisters in Christ need to cling to God. No matter were your heart is when it comes to modesty, look to God. He will help you exercise and practise purity. Today, I want to encourage you to let go of what the world says is "cool" and hold onto purity. Despite the immense amount of courage it takes to break the status quo and follow and honour Christ, He will go with you. He will be with you every step of the way. Little ones are so special. As they explore the wide world around them with their kaleidoscope's of eyes, they express themselves with sincerity and earnestness. Little ones are filled with such an immense joy, and they're child-like faith is a perfect example of trust. My little sister is one of these children. And, as I watch her grow and learn, I begin to learn more myself. How to smile more, how to forgive cheerfully. Here are three things this delightful little girl has taught me. 1. STAND UP TO BELLIGERANCEI can admit that standing up to bullying is tough. When one continues to degrade and bluster, it's easy to back off and stay the bystander. But when the bully continued to tease, this little one said, "No. That's not okay," to stand up for her friend. Even though it took practise and a lot of courage, she learned to use her voice and protect others from the horrors bullying brings. 2. KEEP SMILINGEvery bad day, when things don't seem to go my way, i'm one to step back and grumble. My smile slowly fades into a flustered grimace. I know it's cliche, but it's true. Days like these are days when she starts smiling. When she leaps in joy and doesn't let the bad weather get the better of her. Joy is a choice, not something given based on an event or a celebration. She chooses joy. 3. FORGIVE WHOLEHEARTEDLYForgiveness is a big topic, not only because it's hard, but because it's something we all wrestle with. But I think we can all learn something from little ones who can forgive earnestly. The next time it's time to forgive, picture a little one in your life. Remember their wholeheartedness and remember that the reason we can forgive is because we have been forgiven. Let the little ones God has placed in your life teach you something. Instead of looking down on them, listen to them. Explore the world with them. Learn and grow with them, because they have a few things to teach you. Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young. But set an example for the believers in speech, in love, in conduct, in faith and in purity. Rend Collective's latest single ~ Rescuer, is an excellent reminder that there truly is Good News for everyone. As you listen to this timely classic, I encourage you to hang onto each word and lift your eyes to your Rescuer. In this song, we are reminded that we no longer have to linger in fear, but rejoice in gladness for the gracious love of Christ. This song celebrates that there is still hope - hope for the doubter, hope for the shamed, hope for the one who walked away. As you listen to this song, it's hard to not tap your foot to the beat, and hum along with the song. What I love most about Rend Collective's songs is their passion and zeal to proclaim the Good News to the world. Will you join me in becoming a purveyor of the Good News of the Gospel? Autumn has finally arrived. That means that instead of bright sunny days, and a gentle breeze, rain seems to pour down like hailstones, with a harsh chill. Just like how the season change, so can circumstances. At first, it can be a lovely day, nearly perfect in every way, but the next day it could be dreadful, overcome in shame, darkness, and troubles. But it's in these hardships, when our character is built. When we show our real selves, who we really are, and shine how much we love and trust God through every toil. "Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, but it is about learning to dance in the rain." -Vivian Greene We can never run away from hardships. In a sinful world, troubles are going to sneak up on us, hoping to steal away our joy in the Gospel. Instead of curling up in a little ball of misery, through the hope the Gospel gives us, we can dance in the rain. We don't have to let negativity and fear overrule us, but stand strong. BUT WHAT ABOUT WHEN WE DON'T FEEL LIKE IT?Talk to God. Read His Word. And through the difficulty, He will help you to find joy, and must up the courage it takes to dance in the rain.
He will give you renewed hope, and joy. |
